I played the first level for a bit to try and get a bit higher up my friends-list leaderboard. I managed it, getting a time of about 15.5 seconds, but the leaderboards are completely messed up and make no sense at all. Hooray! I went back to this today, determined to complete the two levels on Advanced that I was stuck on (“Schadenfreud” and “King of the Mountain”), and after $hlmun of goes (especially on Schadenfreud), I finally did it. OK, so they both have completion times of 20+ minutes, but still. So that means all the levels are done, and the game is complete! I also got a measly 25 gamerpoints for my trouble. Managed to do the half-pipe level! Hurrah! It seems the trick is to jump repeatedly across the “bottom” of the pipe, which makes you build up speed to make it up the other side. I still couldn’t manage the other two Advanced levels though – the mountain one, and “Schadenfreud” or whatever it’s called. Pah. Went and did a load of Intermediate again to get Par times. I only have two left to do – the spelunking one being one. …

A few games online tonight, and bizarrely someone I was playing against knew me from the Nintendo UK forums. Very strange. I didn’t do especially well, but then I had just got back from the pub.

Nope. I just can’t do the half-pipey level at all. The game is clearly broken. I did, however, manage to find an easter egg on the very first level when I was trying to improve my times. That gained me 5 gamerpoints and another achievement. Hurrah! I have a gamerscore of 120 now! Ph34r m3. Whilst time-improving, I got thoroughly confused by the leaderboard system. I’m now on Level 59. I have, however, now skipped three levels. The hardest one seems to be the multiple half-pipes level, which I have no idea how to complete – I can’t get over the top of them, and on the one occassion I fluked the first one, I died right afterwards.

I’m up to Level 51 now, but I’ve had to skip one so far as it’s too hard. I’m now stuck on another. Advanced Mode is too bloody difficult. I’m crying now.

Just 8 levels on Expert (or Advanced, or Chuffing Hard, or whatever the final setting is) completed today. I took almost 10 minutes on one of them, which wasn’t good. Waaaaay off most of the par times. Oh well.

I’ve now completed all of the Intermediate levels, although some were very difficult (at least the first time through, anyway). I haven’t managed to get a Par Time on them all, in fact, I’ve only managed it on about half of them. It did give me one of the achievements, though, and I think I’ll be able to do them without too much difficulty.

Note the lack of “(Demo)” in that thar title. I bought it with the last of my points (well, not the last – I have 100 left that’ll buy me almost nothing). I’ve played and completed all of the Beginner levels, passing them all under par first go, bar one – the one you have to finish it in 20 seconds or less, but can’t. Turns out there are five “time travel” power-ups you can collect to make it possible. …

This is a great game! The graphics have that bizarre shiny-sticky-plastic look to them that plagued Kameo, but it doesn’t matter here. People have likened Marble Blast to Super Monkey Ball, but they’re not really all that similar. Marble Blast‘s levels are more maze-like, with jumps and power-ups, whereas Monkey Ball is all skill and speed. There’s no time limits here, although levels have a “par time” to beat. Some levels have gems to collect, and gravity direction switches too …
